Municipality of Pozorrubio

(Dr. Jacinto C. Cabero, Jr. is Principal II of Nantangalan Elementary School – Webmaster)

History does not repeat itself. But we must know the history to understand the future.

The history  of Pozorrubio could also be known by way of looking back at the significant existing markers or places and studying the story  behind it. These historical markers are as follows:

The improvement and the new – look of the Municipal Hall was made possible during the term of Mayor Artemio Q. Chan. It is located within the Original “cuatro calles pueblo” of Pozorrubio. It was surrounded by what we now call Caballero St. Penoy St. Sison St., and Rizal St.

The old Municipal Building (Gumaca Type) was built during the Administration of Don Florentino Magno (1922-1928).

In 1939 the foundation of a small church called “visita Y Ermita in Barrio Claris were laid down which was later finished in 1842. Spanish priests from San Jacinto used to come to officiate / say masses.
When Pozorrubio  became an independent town on January 13, 1870, and became an independent parish, a temporary church (the first one) was built in the areas site at Cablong (now the town proper) after it was transferred from the original site at Claris now barrio Amagbagan). The new church was blessed on July 26, 1879 by Fr. Julian Lopez. Sta Filomena was chosen its patroness.

Pozorrubio is now a First-Class Town!

By Zorayda Costales/jvillamil

We have come a long, long way. And it was a trail of mathematics, pure and simple.

Pozorrubio is now a 1st-class town. This is according to the DOF BLGF (Department of Finance, Bureau of Local Government Finance) MEMO CIRCULAR NO. 01-M(58)-08 dated November 12, 2008 re: Reclassification of Municipalities effective July 29, 2008.

Considering that this latest round of reclassification requires that the average annual income bracket of 1st class municipalities is 55 million or more covering the period 2004 to 2007, the financial statements of which must be COA (Commission on Audit) certified, Pozorrubio is more than truly deserving of this distinction.  The town had been averaging an annual income of more than 70 million for the past 4 years under both the Chans’ administrations.

Pozorrubio was a 4th class municipality when Continue reading

Ten Outstanding Filipino Physicians (TOFP) honored by JCI Senate Philippines, DOH Sept. 29 at Manila Hotel

by ginquesada

This event will be remembered by Pozorrubians. A first in the history of the town. On this occasion, a Pozorrubian, Dr. Blesilda dela Rosa-Salvador, of the popular, ‘Dra. Bles at Your Service’ program of DZMM, is selected one of the Ten Outstanding Filipino Physicians. TOFP is a JCI Senate Philippines and Dept of Health project started 9 months ago.

Dra. Bles is described as ’an OB/GYN who has made her mark as a health educator through media. For more than 10 years, Doctora Bles continues to bring medical information to people from all walks of life through the radio, TV, and the Internet via her Teleradyo program “Doctora Bles at Your Service.” She renders free medical advice on air and gives vital knowledge about medicine and science in Pilipino. Because of the wide coverage of media, her program reaches OFWs abroad, who benefit from listening and understanding the medical topics she tackles. Most of all, her free consultations via letters, phone patch, or cell phone text messaging effectively help those who cannot immediately see a doctor. Just like some of the other awardees, she has chosen to continue her medical practice here, while her nuclear family has migrated to the US.’

‘Doktora Bles’ is a Pozorrubian by marriage to Dr. Raul Francisco D. Salvador of the deep-rooted Pozorrubian Salvador-Doras clan. The couple established a clinic in Pozorrubio in their early years of medical practice, and while serving their local clientele, the Pampangena wife assimilated with the elite, folks and commoners of the community. They are blessed with three pretty/handsome, intelligent and responsible children, Ryan, Sandra, and Barbara, who, themselves, are starting to create their marks in their respective careers. When this author congratulated her and thanked her for bringing honor to the town, she texted back: “Salamat, Kuya. Siempre, parad sicatayo yan amin, taga_Pozorrubio aq met lan talaga”.

We salute you, Dra Bles!
