Building from the ashes of Gabaldon

Written by jVillamil

Presently ongoing is the construction of the new schoolbuilding to replace the Gabaldon of Pozorrubio Central School razed by the fire during the January 13, 2010 Town Fiesta. It is to be remembered that the building started to burn then spread quickly and fiercely while most of the townspeople were watching the streetdancing competition sponsored by the balikbayan community.  It was a stroke of a miracle that the school held an unofficial holiday (only on that day!) for the PCS pupils to  participate in the event, thus no casualty was reported. The situation would have been drastically different  if the children were in those rooms holding classes; it would have been disastrous.

Immediately during the Barangay Night held on that night of the fire, 5th District Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco personally pledged the immediate resurrection of the 15-room Gabaldon building the soonest possible time, including the library and administrative offices. This time, it will be a 3-storey edifice estimated to cost more than P20 million. To date, the Congressman’s pledge of P12-13M is now reinforced with P10M from DepEd, P5 million from Governor Amado T. Espino Jr., P2M from Engineer Rosendo So’s ABONO partylist, and another P2M from the municipal savings of Pozorrubio the release of which had since been  approved by the Sangguniang Bayan.
